Resume a Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode conversation in Paneflow

Published
Updated

In Paneflow 0.17.4, Agent sessions lists saved Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode conversations for the active terminal's project. Select the one you want to resume: Paneflow runs the corresponding command in that terminal, with no session ID to copy.

The agent must be installed and its saved history still available on the machine.

Resume a conversation from the project's terminal

  1. Open a terminal pane in the project's directory, with a shell ready to accept a command. If an agent or another program already occupies the terminal, use another pane.
  2. Open Agent sessions for that pane. Paneflow lists conversations for the detected directory, grouped by enabled agent.
  3. Identify the conversation by its label and date, then select it. The resume command runs immediately in the terminal associated with the list.

Once the agent loads the history, confirm that you have the right conversation before sending your next request.

Resume with a session ID

If you already know the ID, you can run the agent's command directly in a shell in the project's directory. Replace <session-id> with the saved conversation's ID:

claude --resume <session-id>
codex resume <session-id>
opencode --session <session-id>

These commands load the history saved by the agent. The syntax was checked on September 30, 2026, for Claude Code 2.1.286, Codex CLI 0.159.2, and OpenCode 1.18.25.

If the conversation is missing or fails to start

  • The list is empty: check the terminal's directory. A conversation saved in another checkout or worktree may be tied to a different path. Return to its directory, then reopen Agent sessions.
  • The terminal changed directory or was closed: Paneflow refuses to send the command there. Open the list from a terminal in the correct directory.
  • The agent is missing from the list or its command fails: check that it is enabled in Settings > Agents and that its executable is available on PATH.
  • The history was deleted or never saved: use the agent's session tools to see what remains. Paneflow can only resume conversations whose saved history is available.

Resume history or return to a running agent

If you quit Paneflow with Keep sessions running, reopen the app to return to terminals and agents that are still active. The host process that maintains them and the machine must have remained running.

If the agent has stopped, resuming its conversation starts the agent with its saved history. Restart on an ended terminal opens a new shell. After a machine restart or host crash, resuming therefore depends on the history retained by the agent.

The terminal session documentation explains how to reconnect to and restart terminals.
